M A Turner

Hi,

I’m M A Turner, author of the Chapwell series of books.

I moved to Wales in 2002, in search of a better quality of life, and Wales has proved to have that in abundance.

My career began as an Aircraft Engineer in the Royal Air Force servicing the fleet of VC10 aircraft, followed by building wings for the Airbus A320—both roles involving aircraft that were as impressive in appearance as they were in performance.

Later I spent many years in the IT world, gaining unexpected but invaluable experience in the literary sphere through projects such as the Arden Shakespeare and Brill’s Encyclopaedia of Islam. This was in the days before e-books were commonplace, when text had to be painstakingly converted by hand into digital form. Looking back now, it’s remarkable to see how far that world has evolved.

When Covid struck I was furloughed for three months. It turned out to be a blessing oddly enough. I joked that it felt like “retirement work experience” which, as it happened, followed the year after. This gave me the opportunity to offload the many stories that were cluttering up my head.
